Spanish Adventure is more than just a Spanish school in Colombia. It provides authentic Immersion in Colombian culture in the town of San Carlos. When I joined Spanish Adventure, I was surprised to discover that I wasn’t only a visitor, but became a member of the community too. Every day, I saw many of the same friendly faces and, over the past month, some of them have become friends. Let me introduce you to some of them!

Looking for nostalgia? Stroll around on the square, have a café, an empanada or a coconut lemonade and meet these old guys, chatting, playing cards and laughing.

It makes me happy to celebrate another year and have the company of my children that appreciate me.
Las señoras de arepas - The Arepa Ladies
Craving a proper breakfast? Monday to Sunday, the best breakfast in town is served by these funny sisters. They serve you a freshly prepared arepa with cheese, scrambled eggs and a really good coffee for a very fair price. You find them directly opposite Spanish Adventure.

Lo que me hace feliz es mi hijo, el sabe cosas como un niño grande apesar de que solo tiene tres añitos, le gustan mucho los animales, cuenta historias, canta y juega sonriente.
What makes me happy is my son. He knows things like a big boy, even though he is only three years old. He likes animals a lot, tells stories, sings and plays with a smile on his face.

El hombre de burritos y falafel - The Burrito and Falafel man.
Empty stomach? There’s healthy and delicious homemade food just down the street. This guy makes the best falafel and burritos in San Carlos. Plus, the restaurant has a cute décor!

Too lazy to grocery shop? Don’t worry, the supermarket is just around the corner. You can buy fresh fruit and everything for your meal at the small supermarket. This friendly face is often spotted at the cash register.

In need of youthful inspiration? When school is over, this gang strolls around San Carlos to enjoy the afternoon. They are really friendly, smart and interested in the strange foreigners who are studying at the language school.

Mi familia. El voleibol. Lo que me hace más feliz llegar a mi casa y tener a mis padres vivos.

Shoes getting worn down? Don’t worry, you can find this shoemaker seated in the most shaded part of the street (rotating throughout the day), waiting for more shoes to repair. In the morning, afternoon and evening he always greets his neighbors with a friendly “Buenas”, in the softest voice you will ever hear.
